Golfing at Lomas Santa Fe

Today we went to Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course for our first golfing round. It's about a 30 minute drive from our hotel. Our tee time was 10, but we were worried about traffic and ended up getting there before 9. But they let us start early. It's a beautiful, hilly golf course, mostly par 3 holes and a couple of par 4 holes. We decided to try all 18 holes. Most of the holes are fairly short, like we are used to at our regular course, but instead of completely flat and no hazards, this course is very hilly and lots of sand bunkers and a couple of water hazards. On the other hand, the greens and the rest of the course are very well maintained, so the balls roll a lot farther on the greens and even on the fairway.

I spent a bit of time in the sand bunkers. Sandra only got in twice. Neither of us got into the water. We didn't get great scores, but we enjoyed the challenge and promised ourselves we need to try out some different courses when we get home.

After we golfed, we came back to the hotel and sat in the hot tub for a while to rest.

In the afternoon we played some games and then at 4:30 we drove out towards the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge hoping it would be far enough away from the city to see the stars well.

We stopped at Lolita's Taco Shop near Chula Vista for dinner. It was a hole-in-the-wall place, but the enchiladas were excellent.

We got out to the wildlife refuge and could see lots of stars. Nita identified Orion just above the hills and Sandra identified the Pleaides. We thought we could almost see the Milky Way, but there was just too much light even out that far from the city to see the Milky Way well.
