Happy Solstice to All!

We started out today biking the length of Shelter Island where our hotel is. It's about 1.2 miles long. The bikes were free to rent from the hotel, but they were one speed with coaster brakes, the tires were low, and apparently the bikes had never made acquaintance with an oil can. So they were hard to ride even on the flat island. I don't know how I ever learned to ride a bike on one of these! But we had a nice ride and found the little beach at the north end of the island.

We looked for beach glass on the little beach, but only found one piece and it wasn't real "beachified."
After the bike ride, I changed into shorts. It was only about 64 degrees, but very humid and sunny. We went to lunch at a place called "Rubio's Test Kitchen," Sandra got a salad that had Fresno Chiles in it. She thought it was just a red pepper, but it was super hot and the salad was full of them. The food was okay, except Sandra a hard time avoiding all the chiles in the salad. After lunch we went to a golf supermart where Sandra got some new clubs and golf shoes.
Back at the hotel, we were getting ready to head out for a drive east because we want to see if we can get away from the city lights to see the Milky Way. But we noticed that a huge crowd was gathering in the park across from our hotel. We asked the hotel people and found out there was a Christmas lights boat parade at 5:30. So we decided to postpone the star trip and walked over to the pier to watch the boat parade go by. It was hard to get a good photo of moving boats in the dark, but maybe you can get the idea from some of the photos.
